In a cozy shop along Alexandria Pike in Southgate, you’ll find heavenly scented candles. Festively decorated for the holidays, the boutique’s soothing scents invite you to explore further and discover their handcrafted selection of candles, soaps, lotions and more. Owner Denise DeMoss puts all her heart and business acumen into this business. Growing up in Campbell County, DeMoss has always been in tune with the pleasures of local shopping and seventeen years ago DeMoss launched Celestial Scents candles from his home. In August of this year, DeMoss opened its retail space.

Celestial Scents Candles has products for everyone on your shopping list including sea salts, whipped hand soap, scrubs, hand sanitizer, shaving soaps, beard oil. and of course candles. Their soy wax candles come in three sizes with a wide range of scents and burn times. You’ll also find loofahs, mittens and other bath time items as well as holiday and wooden house items, all artfully handcrafted.

A small sample of products to tempt you: Sugar and Shea Body Scrub, Avocado Body Butter, Cactus and Jade Flower Candle, Peppermint Foot Soap. Maybe a lavender bath bomb? Even Santa Claus can go shopping sometimes and there are many variations of products and scents to choose from.

“At the start of this adventure, I had no idea how candles were made, or even where to buy materials to make them! After a lot of self-learning, trial and error and an honest family, over the years Celestial Scents Candles has improved a lot! adding: “Offering over 150 amazing scents, all blended into an all-natural best soy wax with cotton wicks.” Heavenly Scent Candles are all hand poured in small batches with no added colors and finished with the most incredible love and passion! DeMoss says, “In 2019 Celestial Scents Candles launched a new line of handmade soaps and skin care products. Our goal is to handcraft all-natural soaps and other personal care items in small batches that help treat different skin conditions and share our learning with others to help improve their quality of life.

“On May 15, 2020, I applied for my WBEC (Women’s Business Enterprise Certification) through the WBENC. On July 15, I had the opportunity to share my business story with the National Council as well as a visit to my production site where all my products are made. On July 20, 2020, Celestial Scents Candles achieved our National Women’s Business (WBE) certification by the National Council of Women’s Business. On September 16, 2020, Celestial Scents Candles obtained our Women-Owned Small Business (WOSB) certification! Add DeMoss.

While the current COVID-19 crisis has had its share of challenges for heavenly scented candles, it has been edifying to know that so many in the community have supported it. “Passers-by have stopped to wish me luck, that’s really sweet,” DeMoss says.

To help shoppers during the pandemic, they are offering online shopping, local deliveries and curbside pickup. Orders are normally dispatched within 48 hours.

Its mission is not only to sell quality products, but also to lend a hand to others through the sale of their “charity candles”, choosing to donate 10% of sales directly to this organization. Current charities include The Barracks Projects, Toys for Tots, and CABVI.
