Peoria Heights Latest Candle Store Lets Customers Make Their Own Candles

PEORIA HEIGHTS, Ill. (WMBD) – Chad and Susan Zobrist, a couple from Morton, opened Generations Candle Co. in Peoria Heights earlier this month, a new family business for a close-knit family in central Illinois.

Here’s the twist: Instead of buying a candle, customers can make their own. Customers choose their scent, then mix it in a container with hot soy wax. The wax is kept in a melter at 170 degrees and poured in-house.

The whole process can take up to two hours. The Zobrists have stated that the goal is to create an experience.

“It’s a great opportunity for people to come together. Like Chad said, bring family and friends together and create memories, ”said Susan Zobrist.

Chad Zobrist already has experience in the business world.

“I’ve owned a small business in Morton, Ill. For 28 years,” he said. “I just thought it was a great concept because retail is struggling a bit, as we know things have changed a lot with the internet.”

In the theme of the store name, their children work for the company.

“Family is very important to us. And we are a united family. We have four daughters, three are married and one is in college, ”said Susan. “But we have the opportunity to work together, and they are all excited to be a part of it as well.”

A grand opening ceremony for the store is in preparation for October 2. It is located at 4600 N. Prospect Rd., Suite 2.
