Newest candle shop in Peoria Heights lets customers make their own candles

PEORIA HEIGHTS, Ill. (WMBD) – Chad and Susan Zobrist, a couple from Morton, opened Generations Candle Co. in Peoria Heights earlier this month, a new family business for a close-knit family in central Illinois.

Here’s the twist – instead of buying a candle, customers can make their own. Customers choose their scent and then mix it in a container with hot soy wax. The wax is kept in a wax melter at 170 degrees and poured in-house.

The whole process can take up to two hours. The Zobrists said the goal was to create an experience.

“It’s a great opportunity for people to come together. Like Chad said, bring your family and friends together and make memories,” said Susan Zobrist.

Chad Zobrist already has experience in the business world.

“I’ve been a small business owner in Morton, Illinois for 28 years,” he said. “I just thought it was a great concept, because retail is struggling a bit, as we know things have changed a lot with the internet.”

In the theme of the store name, their children work for the company.

“Family means a lot to us. And we are a close family. We have four daughters, 3 are married and one is in college,” Susan said. “But we have the opportunity to work together, and they’re all excited to be a part of that as well.”

A grand store opening ceremony is in preparation for October 2. It is located at 4600 N. Prospect Rd., Suite 2.
