A sudden and unexpected brawl between the camps of Josh Taylor and Jose Ramirez erupted after the weigh-in for their battle for the undisputed light welterweight championship of the world.

Scottish light welterweight Taylor, 30, is keen to make history and become the first Briton to hold all four world titles simultaneously when he faces WBC and WBO champion Ramirez in Las Vegas.

The build-up has been far from amicable, with mutual respect crumbling in an earlier showdown after Taylor took umbrage with his Mexican-American rival after his manager’s comments.

Tensions were high as both fighters weighed in under the light welterweight limit at 139.6 pounds, Taylor waving the Scottish flag in his Tartan Tornado boxer shorts.

Taylor’s coach Ben Davison stepped in to break the pair, but as the duo seemed to go their separate ways, they clashed in the hallway of the Hunting Hotel, sparking a scuffle between the two camps.

Video of the incident uploaded by Top Rank shows Taylor walking down a hallway surrounded by Ramirez supporters waving a Mexican flag in the Scotsman’s face.

The 30-year-old sees Ramirez in the distance and walks over to the WBO and WBC champion. The two come face to face before Taylor pushes Ramirez with his right hand, triggering an altercation in which security has been forced to intervene.

Taylor and his team were forced into an elevator by security with palpable hostilities on the eve of their clash in Sin City.

The Scotsman believes he has shaken his undefeated rival, who called Taylor a ‘nasty fraud’ earlier this week.

“Look, I’m in his head, I know I’m in his head,” Taylor said. “ He seems a little excited which is good we’ve never seen that before. I’m gonna break her face tomorrow.

He also took to Twitter to reflect on the incident, writing: ‘He ambushed about 50 Mexicans against about 6 from Team Taylor. We don’t give anything away. Let’s go #Undisputed #WarTaylor ‘.

The only British fighter to be crowned the undisputed world champion is former heavyweight king Lennox Lewis, although only three titles were available when he triumphed in 1999.
