Bartlesville candle shop owner gives back to charitable causes every month

The owners of a Bartlesville candle shop are giving back this month after a life-changing event.

The couple said they choose a cause each month to donate to, and they said this month the American Heart Association was an easy choice.

For Crafty Candle Shoppe co-owners Erin and Clifford Taylor, heart trouble hits close to home.

“My amazing husband had a stroke two years ago, and the American Heart Association is also the leading authority on stroke prevention, so we want to make sure we’re doing everything we can to fundraising and raising awareness,” Erin said. Taylor, co-owner of Crafty Candle Shoppe

Clifford had a widow’s stroke on January 31, 2020.

He says Erin’s quick thinking saved his life.

“I yell at him, but he doesn’t. In my head, I’m like, ‘I’m not right,'” Clifford said. “And all I could get out of it wasn’t scrambled. She understood that being the wonderful woman that she is and intuitive. She said, ‘Can you put your shoes on? We’re going to go to the hospital.

Clifford is still recovering but is grateful for the progress he has made.

“I can walk and talk and breathe and eat and all that, but I’ve found that my left leg doesn’t come up as high when I try to pick it up like it used to,” Clifford said. “Is it bad? Yeah it’s bad, but for me I can still lift my leg, I’m fine, I’m still on this side of the grass, I’m fine.

He says he’s grateful to groups like the American Heart Association that help educate people about the signs of a stroke and how to prevent them.

“Knowing more about strokes and how to recognize them is important,” Clifford said. “From a recipient.”

Each month, Erin and Clifford Taylor create a “candle for a cause”.

Profits from the candle and several other items are donated to the organization of their choice.

Erin says trying to help others with their work is her ultimate goal.

“Trying to make the world a little better than we found it,” Erin said.
